About The Position
The remote position is based within the IISD Energy Program (www.iisd.org/energy), a diverse and dynamic team of more than 30 experts based in the IISD Geneva and Ottawa offices as well as remotely in India, Indonesia, South Africa, and other countries.
The Communications Consultant, Just Energy Transition, will contribute to a new online platform aimed at facilitating a just energy transition in coal regions, with a particular focus on Indonesia. The platform will be in English, with the potential for additional content in Bahasa Indonesia.
We are seeking an experienced journalist or communications professional to support the platform’s manager. The ideal candidate will have proven writing and editing skills and a background in environmental or energy sciences.
Key areas of responsibility:

• Track current events related to the field of just energy transition and communicate these to colleagues, identifying opportunities for further work and/or public engagement.
• Draft, edit, and distribute newsletters and social media posts when required, ensuring posts are relevant, timely, engaging, and targeted to the needs and interests of key audiences. This may include tracking trending topics and hashtags and regularly monitoring the feeds of partner organizations to identify opportunities for cross-promotion.
• Support the implementation of the project’s Strategic Communications Plan.
• Research and write original news stories, briefings, interviews, and research articles for a diverse audience comprising policy-makers, scientists, climate advocacy groups, and coal region workers.
• Help edit and proofread platform content to ensure high-quality text and editorial consistency in line with IISD standards.
• Help promote the platform at a local level and build up a network of contacts across Indonesia.

About The Successful Applicant
The successful applicant will be a highly skilled communicator with proven journalistic or editorial experience. They will have a talent for making complex ideas accessible to wider audiences and crafting engaging content. Experience in climate and energy-related communications will be considered a strong asset.

• Excellent organizational, planning, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work quickly and accurately and to meet deadlines.
• A minimum of a bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a relevant field (e.g., communications, journalism, political science, economics, environmental or development studies, etc.).
• Native-level speaker of Bahasa Indonesia.
• Self-starter, able to work independently as well as within a team.
• A minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience in journalism, communications, or digital marketing.
• Experience with online content management systems and website monitoring tools.
• Demonstrated interest in issues related to sustainable development, especially climate and energy, is an asset.
• A high level of computer literacy: must be able to work in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and be familiar with virtual event software, such as Zoom and MS Teams.
• Excellent oral and writing skills in English and a track record of written products in English.
