Alner is an innovative returnable and reusable packaging system provider for consumer goods such as detergent, shampoo, and food products. We enable every household to switch towards reusable packaging prefill model for their daily needs, leading the #ReuseRevolution through its efficient and fully traceable distribution model, innovative reward system, and unique software integration with FMCG companies and retailers.
Since 2020, Alner has expanded to 150+ points of sale (PoS) including community-based PoS such as waste banks, warung stores, peer-to-peer agents in Greater Jakarta, and online channels. We have sold 60,000+ products to 2,500+ customers and avoided 480,000+ single use packaging. Our potential has already caught the eye of FMCGs that see the opportunity in this model. We are currently collaborating with three FMCGs, including Wipro Unza, Barco, and Yagi Natural.
Alner has also received several recognitions: $450,000 Technology Innovation Challenge (TIC) Grant from ADB; Forbes 30 Under 30 Asia-Social Impact List for the CEO; P4G State-of-the-art Partnership Award, and IKEA Social Entrepreneurship 2022.
Currently, Alner is looking for a Startup Commercial Director to scale our solution and impact 10 times more next year. The Startup Commercial Director will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies to grow Alner's market presence, revenue, and profitability. This role requires a strategic thinker with a practical execution mindset, a strong understanding of the consumer goods industry, retail channels, sustainable packaging systems, and marketing. As a growing startup, Alner requires someone who is comfortable working in a startup environment and possesses both the vision and hands-on approach necessary to drive success.
Key Responsibilities:
- Business Development and Partnerships: Identify, develop, and cultivate relationships with key stakeholders across consumer goods brands, modern trade channels, including minimarkets and supermarkets, as well as traditional and community-based channels. Work towards getting more brands onboard and integrating Alner's reusable packaging system and reverse vending machines into their processes. Be as comfortable in the boardroom of a large FMCG company as in convincing and talking with supermarket managers, waste bank organizers, etc.
- Marketing Strategy: Develop and execute marketing strategies to increase brand awareness, drive demand, and create a compelling value proposition for potential clients. Collaborate with internal teams to ensure consistent messaging and alignment with company goals.
- Sales Channel Management: Maintain and optimize existing sales channels, including direct sales channels like online stores, to ensure a seamless customer experience and maximize sales potential.
- Pricing Strategy: Develop pricing strategies that maximize Alner's profitability while offering competitive and attractive solutions to our clients. This includes understanding market dynamics, client needs, and Alner's cost structure.
- Sales Point Expansion: Lead the expansion of sales points, targeting modern trade channels such as minimarkets and supermarkets, as well as traditional and community-based channels. Understand the nuances of different sales channels and adapt strategies to suit each.
- Core Competency Focus: Identify and emphasize Alner's key strengths to drive long-term success and maintain a competitive edge in the market.
- Team Building and Leadership: Build and mentor a team as the company grows, ensuring alignment with company goals and objectives. Develop and foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and customer focus.
- Financial Performance: Monitor and manage financial performance, including revenue growth and cost management, to ensure alignment with company objectives.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Business, Marketing, or a related field. An MBA or similar would be a plus.
- Proven 7+ years of experience in a senior commercial role, preferably in the consumer goods or packaging industry, with a strong focus on marketing.
- Demonstrable success in developing and implementing commercial and marketing strategies that have led to growth in revenue and profitability.
- Strong understanding of modern trade channels, including minimarkets and supermarkets, and sales strategy.
- Experience in leading and managing teams.
- Exceptional communication and negotiation skills.
- Strong financial acumen and analytical skills.
- Passion for sustainability and knowledge of the reusable packaging industry.
- Ability to thrive in a startup environment, with the capacity to be both a strategic thinker and a hands-on doer.
- Experience working in a startup to scale-up environment would be highly desirable.
