Job Description

12 month fixed term contract / full time

Location: The successful candidate may be based in a country where one of the independent National/Regional Greenpeace organisations (NRO’s) is located. See the locations here. [Please note that we are currently unable to host new staff in a number of NRO's at this present time, due to various restrictions. We are unable to support hosting in the US, in addition to some other NRO locations. The recruitment team may reach out to you to provide an update as necessary, depending on your location]. We offer competitive NGO level salary and benefits, the specifics of which depend on location where the successful candidates will be based. We aim to share this information with candidates before reaching the offer stage.

Greenpeace International (GPI) is looking for an internationally and multiculturally oriented Global Learning and Development Manager to contribute to the creation and delivery of learning and development programmes that align with our objectives and meet the specific training needs of units and departments across the organisation.

Acting as a strategic advisor and partner to stakeholders both in GPI and the Greenpeace Global Network, you will develop and manage learning interventions and professional development strategies for the Global Learning and Development (L&D) Unit, in close collaboration with other L&D team members and the wider stakeholder group. You will act as a partner to support L&D colleagues in NROs across the Global Greenpeace Network as required, to develop and deliver localised content to meet specific needs. You will also be enabling the support and direct delivery of learning programs to National and Regional Organisations (NROs), championing an effective and empowering learning culture at all levels.

In this role you will:

  • Provide overall programme management and coordination for organisational learning journeys and interventions and engage in strategic discussions with other Programme Managers.
  • Advise and assist NROs on development and delivery of localised learning programmes and development pathways.
  • Review/redesign learning interventions based on changing needs and external environment.
  • Contribute to the development and realisation of the overall L&D strategy.
  • Build/maintain relationships with stakeholders across GPI, NROs, training providers, trainers and trainees.
  • Advise stakeholders on emerging organisational priorities (e.g., Justice, Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Safety (JEDIS), wellbeing and digital transformation) and how to develop appropriate learning journeys.
  • Demonstrate and model the Greenpeace networks unique brand identity and apply this logic to L&D undertakings.
  • Work closely with key stakeholders and partners on recruitment and selection of participants for training programmes.
  • Lead the engagement planning, developing and strengthening of our internal Communities of Practice.
  • Support the further development of trainees by one-on-one mentoring and/or coaching sessions.
  • Establish appropriate evaluation and monitoring processes to ensure we are able to demonstrate return on learning for our stakeholders.
  • Ensure published learning materials meet legal unit guidance and are curated in our internal Learning Management System.
  • Contribute to design and development of programmes and interventions, including learning materials (e-courses, trainers notes, curriculum docs for stakeholders) and budget preparation/monitoring.
  • Support collaboration among NROs and act as a liaison between Global L&D and assigned NROs.

What we’re looking for:

Remember no one has every skill or experience needed for this role and you’ll have the opportunity to learn a lot from the team. We believe someone who has a few of these is well suited to exceed in this role:

  • Demonstrable support for and belief in the Greenpeace network’s core aims and values.
  • Good organising and conflict resolution skills, with a high level understanding of confidentiality.
  • Understanding of organisational development, with experience of facilitating strategic initiatives and ability to maintain an inclusive, people-focused approach.
  • Experience in contemporary adult education theory and practice, online learning design or coaching and mentoring.
  • Fluent written and spoken English (additional languages spoken at a professional level an advantage).
  • Proficiency in project management tools, with a good understanding of project management lifecycles.
  • Digital literacy with ability to host/manage content and communication on our online learning platform.
  • Ability to work effectively within tight deadlines, time zone challenges and stressful conditions.
  • A track record of success in developing, delivering, administering and/or evaluating L&D initiatives.
  • Experience in a global context, working across borders, with multicultural and diverse teams.

What you can expect:

We are a diverse team spanning the globe who are passionate about what we do. We are a group of compassionate individuals, with a strong understanding and commitment to the impact of learning and development for our staff. We empower L&D colleagues across the Greenpeace global network – especially within NROs in locations that are most critical in enabling us to achieve our mission – to learn, to grow, and to thrive with authenticity, courage and tenacity.

You’ll be encouraged to develop both personally and professionally, taking advantage of the wide range of learning and development opportunities available to our staff. Staff can also access our wellness initiatives, such as yoga and meditation and also have the opportunity to join our global Equity, Diversity & Inclusion staff communities.

About us:

Greenpeace is a global campaigning network. It comprises 26 independent national/regional organisations, and a coordinating organisation, Greenpeace International. Greenpeace uses peaceful, creative confrontation to expose global environmental problems, and develop solutions for a green and peaceful future.

Our goal is to ensure the ability of the earth to nurture life in all its diversity. That means we want to:

  • End all nuclear threats
  • Promote peace, global disarmament and non-violence
  • Prevent pollution and abuse of the earth’s ocean, land, air and fresh water
  • Protect biodiversity in all its forms
