Job Description
Purpose of this Position :


Shift Supervisors in the Hot Metals area are responsible for supervising several Team leaders and their operator members in achieving daily production activities safely in factory areas related to high temperature smelting. The Hot Metals area has several areas and job placement will be determined according to the selection and interview results. The Hot Metals area includes: Flash Smelting Furnace (FSF), Flash Converting Furnace (FCF), Anode Furnace (AF), and Anode Casting.The Shift Supervisor will focus on daily operational tactics, ensure safe execution of tasks and optimize processes, working closely with internal leadership and the Technical Service team. The Shift Supervisor is also responsible for tactical coordination with several other Sections within the factory environment (Mechanical Maintenance, Electrical Maintenance, Process Control, etc.).This position will report to the relevant Section Manager for each area.


Main Duties and responsibilities of this position:


Occupational Safety and Environmental Aspects


  • Demonstrate the ability to interact positively with operators, mechanics, technicians, during field safety verification and take responsibility for stopping work if there is a hazard or damage that has not been controlled.
  • Provide safety briefings (safety talk) before starting work either for process members, maintenance or sub contractors (general labor).
  • Together with the Team Leader, maintain the Cleanliness, Tidiness and Comfort of the work area at the Factory.
  • Check the completeness and feasibility of safety equipment for both personal and production units.
  • Contribute his skills to the multidisciplinary team in the application of risk controls that have been analyzed through HIRADC and Job Safety Analysis (JSA).
  • Contributing his skills in work accident investigation and root-cause analysis
  • Responsible for the safety of all team members under his supervision. Responsible for the safety of everyone who works in his control area.
  • Make work shift reports, which include work safety and environmental aspects.
  • Ensure team members follow the SOP for each job. The Shift Supervisor proactively evaluates SOPs and becomes a conduit for information if there are deficiencies in an SOP identified by their team members.
  • Check and assess work permits. Responsible for work permits that have been given to workers.
  • Proactively lead the team to achieve production targets safely by implementing all relevant Safety and Environmental programs, including Fatal Risk management (FRM).
  • Leading his team in identifying hazards, establishing risk controls, and ensuring the effective implementation of critical controls in the field.
  • Controlling the daily operations of the plant consistently meeting all environmental regulations and commitments.
  • Patrol the factory area where there are maintenance or repair activities.


Operational Tasks


  • Monitor daily process results through predefined metrics. Manage Team Leaders and Operators to guarantee product quantity and quality within specifications.
  • Understand operating the control system in the control room (DCS) related to the area.
  • Provide reports on production shifts (shifts) to the ranks of internal leadership.
  • Proactively provide feedback to superiors and the technical team to improve productivity, product quality, process stability and operational costs.
  • Provide Assessment of Employee Work Results in group shifts as an annual performance evaluation.
  • Factory patrol.
  • Provide feedback on performance to team members and provide corrective action if necessary.
  • Leading the operational team working in shifts to achieve safe production and meticulously handling multiple issues within the entire Flash Smelting Furnace facility. Mastering the use of the Key Performance Indicator (KPI) system to manage and encourage operational team achievements. Proactively provide input to improve the KPI system to ensure alignment with operational business needs.
  • Encouraging cooperative efforts in the field between operations, maintenance and other departments for repairs if there is equipment damage.
  • Fully support emergency recovery efforts.
  • Collaborate with Process Engineers in developing effective operational strategies to achieve production targets (feed speed, feed type, production quality, etc.).
  • Creating and fostering a culture within its organizational structure aligned with PTFI's core values (SINCERE, Freeport EDGE, etc.).


During the detailed engineering, construction, operational readiness, commissioning phases


  • Involved in the planning and execution of pre-commissioning and commissioning activities in the appropriate scope and technical area.
  • Participate in several training programs as mandated for business needs.
  • Provide or participate in the delivery of classroom training.
  • Assist other Operational readiness efforts as needed.
  • Familiar with design and engineering aspects in the assigned area.
  • Support the implementation of new systems/procedures/processes and provide guidance, training, mentoring and support.
  • Lead/participate in making troubleshooting manuals.


Main challenges in this position:


  • Process complexity, team leadership, time management, effective communication, shift work schedules, physical work in the field (fatigue management).


Preferred Qualifications:


Education, certification and experience:


  • SMA/SMK graduate and has more than 10 years experience in leading shift operational workers in chemical, metal or mineral processing plants.


OR


  • Diploma (D-I, D-II, or D-III) in a technical field and more than 7 years experience in leading shift operational workers in chemical, metal, or mineral processing plants.


OR


  • Minimum Certified First Operational Supervisor (POP).
  • Bachelor degree (S1) in technical field and more than 5 years experience in leading shift operational workers in chemical, metal or mineral processing plants


Knowledge, Skills And Abilities (Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities)


  • Able to communicate in English (read, write and verbal) well.
  • Anode Furnace & Casting Area : Furnace, Hot Metal Launder (Blister), Anode Casting Wheel, Forklift Operations, Shaft Furnace, Cooling Systems
  • Flash Smelting Furnace Area : Pneumatic Conveying, Steam dryer, Smelter, Waste Heat Boiler, Granulation, Electrostatic Precipitator, Brokk Machine, Slag Skimming, Matte Tapping, Slag Hauler Machine, Cooling Systems
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Have persuasive skills to influence parties outside of direct supervision.
  • Proven experience in managing field operations workers, by creating and maintaining the right work culture i.e. discipline on safety, environment and pursuit of excellence.
  • Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
  • Experience working in operations following standard integrated planning (operation/maintenance planning and scheduling) and routines.
  • Flash Converting Furnace Area : Dryer, Smelter, Waste Heat Boiler, Granulation, Electrostatic Precipitator, Brokk Machine, Blister Tapping
  • Experience in safe practice for managing and handling high temperature processes and molten metals.
  • Experience with Indonesian regulations regarding Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) for appropriate mineral/metal processing.
  • Skilled in following the application of safety and hazard recognition.
  • Understanding of work using MS Office and other reporting systems.
  • Operational and/or technical experience and knowledge of safe and efficient operations for the following:
