Job Description
The Glasgow Financial Alliance for Net Zero (GFANZ) is a global coalition of financial institutions committed to accelerating the decarbonization of the economy in line with governments' commitments under the Paris Agreement. Members - numbering over 550 financial institutions from 50 jurisdictions - have committed to the goal of net zero by 2050, in line with science-based pathways to limit warming to 1.5 degrees C. GFANZ was established in 2021 as a forum for delivering sector-wide solutions for net-zero transition, helping to ensure high levels of ambition are met with credible action that support transition globally. Learn more about GFANZ at www.gfanzero.com.

As a matter of priority, GFANZ is working with local and global partners to unlock transition finance in support of emerging markets and developing economies seeking to accelerate their energy and wider net-zero transitions. Our work is organized through a cross-cutting CEO-led workstream on Mobilizing Capital, regional networks in Asia Pacific and Africa, and country-specific work in support of G20/G7 Country Platforms and Just Energy Transition Partnerships (JETPs).

To support our exciting work on JETPs we are looking for an experienced and effective individual to lead our in-country efforts for the Indonesia JETP. The successful candidate will act as in-country lead for GFANZ's JETP work. The role requires a deep commitment to ensuring the JETPs succeed, a clear understanding of the respective roles of all involved, an ability to secure delivery from the perspective of private finance in a manner that is consistent with the aims for the JETP as well as GFANZ's wider role and member firms' expectations. It will require excellent stakeholder relationships and management skills, experience with private financial transactions, and a track record of delivering complex projects ideally related to innovative financing solutions for energy projects.

We'll trust you to:

  • Work closely and seamlessly with the GFANZ leadership, central secretariat, regional networks and our members to advance common priorities and draw on wider expertise and resources, including colleagues dedicated to capital mobilization/JETPs.
  • Develop an excellent sense of the JETP energy transition priorities and how those can be delivered effectively, spotting opportunities to support the government in their objectives, and work strategically and patiently to deliver complex policy, project and financing work that unlocks tangible results.
  • Serve as the GFANZ in-country lead, building and maintaining excellent relations, including at the most senior levels, with key in-country stakeholders across government, as well as international partners, multilateral development banks, development finance institutions, and private and financial sectors.
  • Propose financing mechanisms for just transition interventions (including measures for private sector mobilization to support just transition), as well as appropriate financing sources and financial instruments to support JETP projects and initiatives.
  • Ensure that the approach being taken at the country level aligns with the broader frameworks and approaches being developed across GFANZ's capital mobilization work, and input your practical expertise into our wider capital mobilization and regional efforts, so that we actively learn by doing and make progress on cross-cutting issues around private capital mobilization for energy transition.
  • Support the activities of the financing workstream of the JETP Secretariat, including participation in focused group discussions with relevant stakeholders and international partners on financial topics related to the JETP. Candidates should have a clear sense of the contribution that private finance - local and global - can play in contributing to wider efforts towards a successful JETP and ensure that GFANZ and its members deliver the input needed to the JETP in a timely and effective way such that we unlock financing for critical transition projects.
Expectation:

  • Experience working in country or region and ideally (though not required) fluency in Bahasa Indonesia
  • Proven experience of working effectively with local public and private sector stakeholders and building relationships across levels of leadership
  • A strong team player, able to work constructively and collaboratively across local and global stakeholders
  • Experience participating in local or regional private financing with a particular focus on the power sector
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong ability to take a strategic approach while also delivering practically as part of a complex multi stakeholder project
  • Expertise in some combination of climate transition, energy transition and policy contexts, and - in particular - development of financing solutions that bring public and private sector together
