About The Ocean Freight Manager Role

In this job, you will lead a team and be responsible for excellent operations of its ocean-related logistics activity.

Key Responsibilities

• Documentation and Record-Keeping: Oversee the preparation and accuracy of shipping documentation, bills of lading, customs paperwork, and other related records
• Freight Operations Management: Coordinate and manage all aspects of ocean freight operations, including cargo booking, vessel scheduling, container management, and freight consolidation
• Team Leadership: Manage and lead a team of freight coordinators, logistics specialists, and other staff members involved in ocean freight operations. Provide guidance, training, and performance evaluations as necessary
• Risk Management: Identify potential risks in the shipping process and implement risk mitigation strategies to ensure the safe and secure transportation of goods
• Compliance and Regulations: Stay up-to-date with international shipping regulations, customs requirements, and trade compliance standards to ensure that all shipments are in full compliance with applicable laws
• Performance Metrics: Set performance targets and KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) for the ocean freight team, monitoring progress, and implementing corrective actions as needed
• Cost Optimisation: Develop and implement strategies to optimise freight costs, reduce transportation expenses, and improve overall efficiency in ocean freight operations
• Problem Solving: Address and resolve any issues or delays that may arise during the shipping process, working closely with relevant stakeholders to find solutions
• Carrier and Vendor Relations: Build and maintain strong relationships with ocean carriers, freight forwarders, customs brokers, and other relevant vendors to ensure competitive pricing, reliable services, and timely deliveries

To succeed in the Ocean Freight Manager job, you will need to master international freight documentation, have ability to lead and develop team members as well as being a critical thinker to anticipate any potential problems

Key Requirements

• Minimum of three years' experience as an Ocean Freight Manager
• Being a Customs Services Management Entrepreneur (PPJK) is preferable
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication and negotiation abilities
• Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field
• Familiarity with transportation management systems (TMS) and other logistics software
• In-depth knowledge of international shipping regulations, customs procedures, and trade compliance
• Ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, managing multiple priorities simultaneously
