We currently have a vacancy for a registered nurse to join the Team and be part of the future of West Mendip Community Hospital in Glastonbury. The successful individual will be enthusiastic and motivated, an excellent communicator who embraces a holistic team approach, focusing on providing excellent clinical and pastoral care to our patient group, their families and carers. A friendly and adaptable approach is a must, as is a sense of humour.

The Hospital Wards have 32 beds laid out in single rooms, 2 bedded areas and 4 bedded areas. The light, airy spaces are available to patients requiring Rehabilitation, End of Life and Palliative care. The Nursing Team are supported by a Team of Physiotherapist, Occupational Therapist and Social Workers whose goal is to improve the quality of life for patients and enable their chosen pathways.

Main duties of the job

You’ll join the team in delivering all aspects of patient care, from admission through to discharge, using a computerised record keeping system. You will have the opportunity to attend family meetings, undertake ward rounds and be involved in multi-disciplinary team meetings. These all contribute to the decision-making process, goal setting and care planning that facilitates a safe discharge home from Hospital. You’ll provide general nursing care to all of your patients, ensuring they are treated with dignity and respect. You will be able to promote a safe environment within the unit and act as a shift coordinator as required.

You would be required to work flexibly on an internal shift rotation, working both days and nights over a seven-day period, including bank holidays. In return you will receive enhanced payments for working unsocial hours, a generous holiday entitlement and pension scheme.

Preceptorship nurses are also encouraged to apply, and a full preceptorship programme is offered by the Trust.
