Platform Owner Sql Database

Role is based in Dubai; UAE (Not a remote role)

The Database platform is a dynamic continuously evolving area with many new products that keep emerging into the market; Thus, changing the traditional relational DB landscape that was dominating the market for a period of time.

This role will focus on all Database products (traditional & contemporary) and will resume the end-to-end responsibility of Database platform ownership across Emirates NBD Group. While managing the day-to-day operational activities is not expected here, this role will be accountable for the overall platform operational stability and will lead the products engineering strategy and lifecycle. It will be also required to be up to date with the relevant product releases and continuously conduct research and development to carefully select the features that will require to be in the relevant products backlog.

The Role will also play a key role in establishing, maintaining and enforcing standards that will ensure Database performance is preserved despite continuous development and changes from the application and development teams, allowing agile delivery for all projects.

Tasks:-

· Establish a standard set of DB products that caters for different workloads: Relational, Non-SQL, Document...

· Continuous update of the Group IT product catalogue with the approved stack.

· Enforce a standard build and housekeeping checklists: this will simplify the environment and drive cost down.

· Sponsor and drive projects to move the non-compliant DBs into the standard stack.

· Build the products Strategy and Roadmap.

· Establish the product backlog that require to be addressed on quarterly basis.

· Sponsor and drive backlog projects to completion.

· Continuous R&D and vendor engagement.

· Automate the installation to achieve Zero touch unattended deployment.

· Review all housekeeping activities and identify key processes that should be automated.

· Design solutions that caters for enhancing the operational stability.

· Address Problem tickets, Risk and Audit items in the products backlog.

· Take the lead in working with the relevant stakeholders to finalize the relevant products decisions.

· Develop PDPs for the staff.

· Provide technical guidance.

· Act as a level 3 escalation point for operational activities.

Specifications:

· Minimum 10 years of experience at a relevant managerial position in large organizations

· Banking background

· Excellent technical knowledge in SQL Server Database Technologies

· Progressive understanding of contemporary DBs (PostgreSQL, MongoDB…)

· Good knowledge of the products licensing

· Knowledge of other Database technologies is a bonus

· Strong experience in automation & configuration/deployment management tools like Jenkins, Ansible

· Proficient with Python or other relevant scripting languages

· Familiarity with agile tools (Jira) & version control concepts (Github)

· Pro-actively stay current with latest technologies and industry best practices associated to the position

· Strong people and leadership management skills with proven ability to lead, motivate, inspire, develop, and encourage people.
