Job Description
Yayasan Pendidikan Jayawijaya [YPJ] is a school set over two campuses: Kuala Kencana and Tembagapura in Papua, Indonesia. The school provides an inclusive education for PT Freeport Indonesia [PTFI] employees. The student population has a diverse range of needs from various parts of the Indonesian archipelago.


PURPOSE


The Student Welfare and Support Services Teacher is responsible for the wellbeing of students. The Teacher has responsibility to develop student well-being and support services programs in line with YPJ Mission, Vision and Values.


The Student Welfare and Support Services Teacher works collaboratively with all staff and leadership and models the values of the school to create a contemporary, safe, purposeful and inclusive learning environment.


The Student Welfare and Support Services Teacher is responsible for the social and emotional well-being of students and a safe, equitable learning environment. The person works directly with the Student Services department to support students who are learning challenged. This scope includes social-emotional welfare, learning and language support. The Student Welfare and Support Services Teacher is supervised by the Student Services Coordinator and Head of Campus as outlined in the YPJ Organizational Chart.


Duties And Responsibilities


STUDENT SERVICES


  • Develop response to intervention strategies in collaboration with Homeroom/Class teachers.
  • Maintain an effective referral system to support responsive teaching and learning
  • Develop systems, structures and educational support programs which are responsive to student needs.
  • Promote and action the YPJ Child Protection Policy including robust reporting procedures
  • Support the development of student welfare, student support and personal development programs in line with the vision and goals of YPJ in collaboration with the Student Services Coordinator
  • Think strategically to ensure school goals are achieved
  • Use contemporary assessment frameworks to inform and guide the developmental and cognitive needs of students
  • Use a data driven approach to support and guide the needs of students under Support Services case load
  • Develop a model of Student Services Delivery that is contemporary and best suited to the needs of students.
  • Assist in Student Placement
  • Support students in the development of Bahasa Indonesia to ensure access to the guaranteed and viable curriculum.
  • Promote the Social Emotional Program Second Step
  • Develop and promote a restorative justice/restitution model of discipline that promotes student responsibility and the values of the school.
  • Liaise and support Parents where truancy and social services are required.
  • Provide Individual Learning Plans, Student Accommodation Plans and modified curriculum where appropriate.
  • Work with the Learning Support team [and the ISOS counselor] to promote student well-being, health and wellness.
  • Be actively involved in the placement and distribution of students in classes to ensure equity and demographic balance
  • Model collaborative practice, shared leadership and effective decision-making
  • Manage ILPs, SAPs and Intervention Plans.


Communications


  • Liaise with medical services [Ed. Psychology, Counselors, Speech and Language pathologists, pediatricians and occupational therapists] to gain insight, inform Individual Learning Plans and source strategies to support students
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records and databases of all students on case load using adopted forms and information systems [i.e. ALMA]
  • Build effective partnerships with parents to support their child through ongoing conferences and communication of Student Services documentation such as Individual Learning Plans
  • Action the Student Support Services Handbook and associated policies and procedures
  • Organizational Management
  • Provide Professional Development for teachers in Student Services
  • Uses collaborative practices to promote shared goals and to build trust and cooperation across the community
  • Provide presentations to parents on Student and Parental support programs
  • Promote YPJ Policies related to Child Protection, Admissions, Inclusion, Language Development, Bullying and digital citizenship
  • Model effective use of the agreed system of communication within the YPJ schools.
  • Undertake specialized training and coaching to sustain a high level of Student Services Provision [ie Special Education Needs in Asia SENIA Level 1 Certification].


Qualifications And Experience


  • Willing to be placed in a remote area
  • Bachelor of Education/Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Science. degree, or equivalent specializing in Student Services/Psychology/Counseling
  • A current teaching credential
  • Willingness to undertake specialized Student Services Training
  • Organizational ability, initiative, and effective communicative and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated passion for student learning
  • Capacity with the English language
  • Adaptability and flexibility
  • Willing to adapt with the school's leave system which must refer to the school academic calendar
  • Creative problem solver with an open mindset
  • Cultural sensitivity
