Job Description
Yayasan Pendidikan Jayawijaya (YPJ) is a school set over two campuses: Kuala Kencana and Tembagapura in Papua, Indonesia. The school provides an inclusive education for PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) employees. The student population has a diverse range of needs from various parts of the Indonesian archipelago.


PURPOSE


The Librarian supports the development of reading, writing and oral communication for all students and faculty, through the sourcing and coordination of literature and multi-media resources. This involves establishing a balanced resource collection with an array of authors and texts, as well as up to date technology supports, in cooperation with the Technology Coordinator.


The Librarian will meet with grade level teams to assist with the purchase, ordering and organization of student and teacher literacy collections via effective planning that emphasizes the trans-disciplinary nature of learning.


Where required, the Librarian will facilitate the implementation of effective teaching pedagogy and literacy strategies within classroom library visits. The Librarian promotes shared leadership and supports the school to model collaborative skills, and a positive ethos within the school and local community.


Duties And Responsibilities


The Librarian has the following responsibilities:


1. Ordering of literature resources for all levels of the school, for student, teacher and parent use. This is done in collaboration with faculty members using Destiny Title Wave Follett


2. Manage the Follet Destiny System and online Catalogue


3. Develop the library as a modern learning center-hub


4. Develop a E collection for the use of all stakeholders integrated with YPJ Learning platforms and systems


5. Establish an online research database to support inquiry ie Newsela


6. Day to day organization and management of the library, including the arrangement of the book collection and furniture, to provide a welcoming and attractive setting for reading and research, including bulletin boards and displays.


7. Staying abreast of library trends, award winning books and materials, and promoting library use and development within the school and community.


8. Ensuring that the maintenance of the library is well kept, reporting items that need to be repaired or replaced in a timely and efficient manner, and keeping safety issues in mind at all times.


9. Co-develop responsive learning strategies for individual students requiring intervention or enrichment in the area of literacy and research.


10. Keeping the book loaning records up to date and assisting students with the location of books and resources needed for class, during their library sessions.


11. Being flexible and available for students and teachers, reading to students during their weekly sessions, checking out books for all members of the school, assisting with research sessions as requested, and taking on the role of a teaching librarian.


12. Attend and participate in team planning meetings, as able, for upcoming units of inquiry.


13. Promoting the use of the library to the community, through special events and the sharing of new resources, decorations of holidays, etc.


The Librarian will also be required to:


1. Be a positive face for the library and school, creating a welcoming presence


2. Be committed to upskilling himself/herself on library management and skills


3. Take initiative in developing, managing and promoting the library of the school


4. Collaborate with all members of the school community and take a service role.


Minimum Requirements


  • Experience in a Primary Years Programme (PYP) - Middle Years Programme (MYP) School and Library Services
  • Capacity with English preferred
  • Willing to be placed in a remote area
  • Have Cultural sensitivity
  • Appropriate credential[s] in Education and/or equivalent experience.
  • Willing to adapt with the school's leave system which must refer to the school academic calendar
  • Bachelor degree of Education or Library Science or equivalent
  • Have Flexibility and Adaptability
