FPCI
Position: Intern
Duration: 4 weeks, 20 June 2023 - 14 July 2023
Full-time, Monday - Friday (9 AM - 5 PM WIB)

Project Description
You will take part in the ASEAN - CHINA Survey 2023 project. This is an annual project that has been run since 2021. The project is driven by the gap in understanding between multiple stakeholders. The situation inspired FPCI to come up with the initiative to conduct a regional survey that studies people’s perspectives on existing policies and relationship dynamics between ASEAN and China. The survey serves as a platform to help policymakers to better understand the public as FPCI views the importance for ASEAN and Chinese leaders to formulate policies that include people’s perspectives.
The project will ensure that all layers of society are represented by targeting Southeast Asian nationals and then grouped into five categories (government officials, academia, the business community, civil society, and students).
The result of the study will be disseminated to and used by multiple stakeholders, including policymakers, government stakeholders, academics, and others to evaluate existing policies and make better decisions in the future.
Approach
The intern will be given time to oversee the general activities within the organisation while focusing their work on some of the key tasks below:
- Analysing data and identifying trends in foreign policy.
- Providing insights and recommendations to decision-makers.
- Collaborating with other analysts and experts on research projects.
- Writing reports, briefings, and presentations on foreign policy issues.
- Conducting research on global political and economic issues.
- Staying up-to-date on current events and emerging trends in global politics.
As the key tasks can be overwhelming at times, interns are required to have a working ethic/attitude as follows:
- Experience with data analysis software and tools, and knowledge of international law and politics are all beneficial for a Research Analyst for Foreign Policy Issues.
- Attention to detail: You should be detail-oriented and able to identify inconsistencies or errors in data or analysis.
- Strong research and analytical skills: You should be able to gather information from various sources, analyse and synthesise data, and identify patterns and trends.
- Interpersonal skills: You should be able to collaborate effectively with other team members, communicate findings to stakeholders, and build relationships with external partners.
- Excellent writing skills: You should be able to communicate complex ideas and analysis clearly and concisely in written form.
- Critical thinking: You should be able to evaluate information, identify biases, and make sound judgments based on evidence.
- Cultural awareness: You should have an understanding of different cultures and political systems and their impact on foreign policy issues.
Output
By the end of the internship, all interns are expected to produce insightful reports, briefings, and presentations for decision-makers in the government, NGOs, or private organisations related to the project. You will present the outputs as well as the general experience of the internship to the FPCI team at the conclusion of the program.
