Job Description
This position is intended to provide high end technical support to our geologic modeling efforts and GIS related supports to enhance our ability to communicate our modeling results more effectively in a timely and consistent manner.


The key duties and responsibilities of this position are:


  • Assist development and implementation of GIS analysis tools for the system users and operators; develops GIS database models and templates including mineral management of unpatented claims, areas of interest and notices of location
  • Create 2-D plan maps and cross-sections based on 3-D information stored in the Vulcan Design Databases and triangulated models using Vulcan EnvisiCAD, AutoCAD, or other similar software packages.
  • Design and prepare animated and still presentation materials in a variety of formats (PowerPoint files, motion picture files and posters) for communication external to our department using 3-D models and other spatial data as base materials.
  • Provide regular reporting on day to day business activity and support timely report information to keep management informed of progress, problems, and proposed solutions on a regular basis for GOI exploration reporting and ensure all the product compliance with the GOI regulation.
  • Convert modeling products between modeling, visualization software and GIS used by GeoEngineering & Environmental Division
  • Organize all current computed block models generated and used by the Company using Public Area directories and the Spatial Data Server.
  • Maintain and document current Vulcan Design Databases for key modeling products such as stratigraphy, intrusions, faults, etc.


The key challenges in this position include:


  • Preparing 2-D products required by our clients using 3-D data requires mastery and intuitive understanding of multiple software packages coupled with the ability to work independently.
  • Learning how to successfully maintain Vulcan (and other modeling & visualization) databases and solutions that match all the current triangulations and block models used by the company is exceptionally challenging (it's never been done here) because the candidate will have to understand the workflow of all the modeling geologists, and then obtain and organize all their work into a comprehensive series of data sets with which all modelers can interface.
  • Independently learn and understand the standard cartography in GOI Reporting.


The background, education, and work experience needed to succeed in this job are:


Minimum Education And Experience


  • S1 Degree in any technical field that requires intense use of spatial information preferably from Geographic Spatial.
  • At least 3 years technical experience using spatial data as primary job assignment (2-D CAD, 3-D design, or GIS) in mining company.


Core Competencies (Knowledge, Skills & Characters)


  • Translating document/report from/to English.
  • Ability to work independently with a minimum of supervision, but a maximum of interpersonal communication with modeling geologists and other technical experts from disciplines outside our department.
  • Having initiative to look at historical data to solve the problem, should have good in data archiving.
  • Competent in various spatial software packages (AutoCAD, ArcGIS, MapInfo, Vulcan, Minesight, Deswik, Leapfrog, etc), preferably "power user" in one or more package.
  • Ability to supervise one or two draftsmen or contractor to support his duties.
  • Good knowledge for Safety, Health and Environment on Mining Industry.


The key areas in which you have decision-making responsibility are:


  • Make decisions required to independently prepare and maintain an organization and archiving scheme for disparate spatial data sources and products.

Non-Financial


  • This position has no subordinates but will provide support to the Center of Geoscience Information Department that will significantly improve its ability to provide timely modeling products to external clients, especially when time is of the essence.
