Job Summary:


The Electrical & Mechanical (E&M 2) position provides electrical and mechanical maintenance work and field operations for BP US Terminal and Pipelines (T&P). The E&M 2 role is a multi-craft position focused on electrical and mechanical duties. This position specifically will primarily be required to perform Operations and Damage Prevention duties. Individual will play a key role protecting our pipeline system from 3rd party damage. This position will be located at our Renton Station in Renton, Washington. This role will be responsible for E&M2 and Damage Prevention duties on our pipeline assets in King and Snohomish counties and other product assets as needed. To be considered for employment, candidates must live within a reasonable commuting distance (50 miles) to the Renton and Woodinville Stations and their regularly assigned geographical area.

  • Work nights, weekends, holidays and overtime as necessary and is subject to call-outs including response to emergency situations.

  • Exhibit strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as needed but not limited to eye/face protection, flame retardant clothing (FRC), foot protection, gloves, hearing protection, head protection, etc.


Responsibilities:


  • Exhibits safe work practices, including driving both on and off the road.
  • Meet all DOT requirements, including Operator Qualifications
  • Monitor and locate notifications for conflicts.
  • Occasional hand digging, manual probing and walking rough terrain.
  • Receive and physically check items on aerial report.
  • Inspect area pipelines on a daily basis for leaks, replace damaged markers and check other irregularities. Inspections are completed both by vehicle and foot.
  • Complete all emergency Response training, including Hazwoper, RCRA, respiratory, and other as required.
  • Acts as a liaison on behalf of BP with Utilities, Municipalities, Property owners, Excavators and other third parties
  • Complete Inspection & Repair reports, Foreign Line Crossing reports or others as required.
  • Responsible for monitoring and observing excavation activities over/near the pipeline.
  • Perform pipeline identification, location and marking lines through the use of electronic locator and probe.
  • Maintain equipment in good working condition.
  • Recognize third party scope of work and what needs to be done to protect the pipeline.
  • Checks and records equipment and rectifier readings.
  • Attend Public Awareness & Education meetings.
  • Prepare “as-built” drawings of foreign line crossings and other outside construction activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Essential Education:


  • Preferred 3+ years of mechanical or electrical experience or a 2 year technical degree in electrical, electronic instrumentation or equivalent.
  • Minimum of a High School diploma or equivalent.


Additional Competencies & Experience:


In accordance with BP’s multiskilling training approach, the below competencies include areas where an employee will receive additional training and workflows they may support on a secondary basis. Prior experience is helpful and preferred, but not strictly required.


  • Verify instrumentation loop circuits.
  • Ability to obtain a TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Card) Card if required by local operations.
  • Ability to read maps, alignment sheets, construction drawings and complete alignment sheets.
  • Maintain, troubleshoot and repair equipment as assigned.
  • Conduct and document DOT equipment inspections.
  • Installation and maintenance of multiple equipment associated with petroleum liquids and/or gas terminals and pipeline.
  • Meet all DOT requirements, including Operator Qualifications.
  • Underground construction experience and knowledge.
  • Must be committed to learning new skills and complete the E&M training curriculum required for the assigned job classification level within the outlined timeframe.
  • Will be working on 480 volts and below
  • Valid Driver’s License is required.
  • Legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer.
  • Participate in all emergency response training, including Hazwoper, RCRA, respiratory and other as required.
  • Utilize MAXIMO, Utilisphere, CBT, MS Office and other applications.
  • Maintain and repair electronic-control valves, electrical valve actuators and mechanical valves.
  • Computer skills (including MS Office Suites)
  • Troubleshoot and repair manual and automatic tank gauging.
  • Maintain and repair pumps and motors including PD, centrifugal and gear pumping equipment.
  • Driving safety is mandatory at all times and a condition of employment in accordance with BP Pipelines Vehicle Safety Policy.
  • Strong experience in Electrical and Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) programming or pump and motor repair.
  • Safe and proper procedures, including lock out tag out procedures, to preform normal maintenance for running scrapers in a petroleum system; experience with PLC’s, including programming, installation, maintenance, and repair.

About The Role


In this role you will provide expert Process Engineering support to all of bp's production assets located globally. As a central discipline senior process engineer, you will deliver the highest priority work across all bp's production assets, to deliver resilient hydrocarbons and drive efficiency and reliability towards net zero operations.


This role is a 12 month FTC position providing maternity leave cover


What You Will Deliver


You will work on a broad range of challenges using a variety of working techniques, leading focused process studies, and as part of large multi-discipline agile squads to investigate and resolve complex production issues.


The wide variety of work is dependent on the support the regions require, but will include short-term flow-to-work support such as:


  • Leading/completing process system de-bottlenecking studies to increase operating capacity beyond nameplate.
  • Studying options to increase energy efficiency and reduce carbon emissions.
  • Identifying causes for operational upsets and formulating solutions to deliver resilient hydrocarbons.


You may also have opportunity to:


  • Support specific, regional projects to investigate and deliver optimised solutions
  • Lead/work in an agile squad using Scrum/Kanban to overcome a range of challenges and improve an asset's production
  • Be deployed to support other Process and Process Safety Engineering disciplines within bp Solutions
  • Leverage Process Modelling tools (Hysys, Vertex, MySep, Olga, AFT Impulse) to analyse complex Process Engineering problems and deliver solutions
  • Provide Process Engineering input to Major Project Operations


The solutions you deliver will often require you to work using agile practices, engage closely with bp's diverse global production assets, and work independently with teams, sometimes necessitating international travel to engage and collaborate face-to-face with these teams, requiring strong organisational, inter-personal and communication skills.


As a senior member of the team, you will also work closely with junior team members to verify quality, improve consistency and increase capability in others through coaching and mentoring.


What You Will Need To Be Successful


  • BEng, MEng / BSc, MSc or international equivalent in Chemical Engineering or relevant engineering subject.
  • Strong preference that you have a professional accreditation, such as Chartered Engineer
  • Experience of operational support to production assets is beneficial.
  • Experience in process engineering within an upstream Oil & Gas environment.
