They constantly stay informed about the latest scientific research and technological advancements in the field, collaborating with researchers and scientists to incorporate innovative practices into their projects. Through their commitment to ongoing learning, they ensure that agroforestry remains effective, efficient, and adaptable to changing environmental and socio-economic conditions.

Ultimately, agroforestry developers play a vital role in promoting sustainable land management, biodiversity conservation, climate change mitigation and adaptation, economic diversification, food security, and environmental sustainability. Role and Responsibility

The role of an agroforestry developer encompasses a range of responsibilities and tasks to promote and implement agroforestry practices.

  1. Assessing land suitability for agroforestry systems based on factors like soil quality, climate, water availability, and local ecosystems. Conduct site assessments and create plans for optimized resource use and productivity, ensuring environmental sustainability.
  2. Collaborating with the training coordinator, Agroforestry developer will support the organization and implementation of educational programs and training workshops to raise awareness about the benefits of agroforestry. Agroforestry developer will assist in sharing knowledge on agroforestry techniques, ecosystem services, and best practices with farmers, landowners, and community members. Agroforestry developer will involve empowering individuals to adopt and maintain agroforestry systems through capacity-building initiatives, complementing the training efforts organized by the project..
  3. Involves ensuring that the demonstration plot aligns with the expectations and objectives of the program.
  4. Providing technical expertise and guidance to farmers, landowners, and local communities. Offering advice on agroforestry practices, such as pruning, thinning, and intercropping techniques, to optimize production and environmental benefits and address challenges and provide solutions to ensure successful agroforestry implementation.
  5. Designing agroforestry systems tailored to specific landscapes and objectives. Selecting appropriate tree and shrub species that are compatible with the agricultural crops or livestock being integrated and also oversee the implementation process, which may involve activities such as tree planting, soil preparation, and ongoing management.
  6. Monitoring and evaluating the performance and impact of agroforestry systems. Assessing factors for productivity, biodiversity, soil health, water retention, and economic benefit, and also gathering data to improve and refine agroforestry practices and sharing success stories to inspire further adoption.
  7. Collaborate with government agencies, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), academic institutions, sustainable spices associations, and local communities to establish partnerships in agroforestry initiatives. Participate in workshops or public events to raise awareness on agroforestry especially in spices industry."

Important note:

It is important to have a deep understanding of the ecological principles and interactions within agroforestry systems. Stay updated with the latest research and innovations in agroforestry practices to incorporate new knowledge and techniques.



The minimum qualification required for the applicant of Agroforestry Developer:

  1. Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant field such as agriculture, forestry, agroforestry, environmental science, biology, or sustainable agriculture.
  2. Strong knowledge of agroforestry principles, practices, and techniques.
  3. Experience in designing, implementing, and managing agroforestry systems in Indonesia for minimum 3 years.
  4. Understanding of ecological interactions and sustainable land management practices.
  5. Knowledge of tree and shrub species selection, including their growth characteristics and interactions with crops or livestock. Preferred, familiarity with pepper tree species is highly desirable.
  6. Familiarity with soil conservation, water management, and biodiversity conservation within agroforestry systems.
  7. Strong analytical skills to assess land suitability and identify appropriate agroforestry interventions.
  8. Excellent communication skills in Bahasa Indonesia and English to collaborate with farmers, landowners, and local communities, and provide training and technical guidance.
  9. Proficiency in data collection, monitoring, and evaluation of agroforestry systems.
  10. Familiarity with agroforestry tools such as GIS, LiDAR, and gap light analysis (GLAMA) will be added values.
