aGROWforests Project

The aGROWforests project is a three year project funded by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH (GIZ) to increase the income and productivity of smallholder pepper farmers through climate-smart agriculture (CSA) and implementing regenerative agroforestry practices. The project targeted smallholder pepper farmers in Bangka Belitung province and Lampung province in Indonesia. The project aims to reach 2,300 farmers (30% of whom are women and 15% are youth). The aGROWforests project is looking for Change Makers to support project implementation.

Change Makers

The Change Makers will be based in Bangka Belitung province. The primary responsibilities of Change Makers are as follows:

• Implement CSA practices, as well as providing farmers with technical assistance to encourage adoption.
• Serve as a focal point for farmers in the area to which you have been assigned.
• Support the implementation of Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) activities such as baseline surveys, and regular monitoring, and suggest improvements to increase the adoption of CSA on the farm level.
• Collaborate with government agencies, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), research institutions, and other stakeholders to promote the adoption of CSA practices.
• Provide assistance to procure pepper and other farm-produced commodities from farmers.
• Deliver training to farmers and other stakeholders on CSA principles, practices, and techniques.
• Promoting aGROWforests products and services that will be developed during the project to farmers and related stakeholders.
• Regularly conduct farmer’s visits to provide technical assistance for the implementation of CSA on their farms.
• Monitoring and evaluating the performance of CSA practices, and developing strategies to improve productivity and sustainability.
• Facilitate the field implementation of the aGROWforests project and ensure that all activities and deadlines are met.

Requirements

Essential skills and experience:

• Familiar with facilitating and/or delivering training activities.
• Excellent leadership, problem-solving, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.
• Preferred 1-3 years of experience in designing and/or managing regenerative agroforestry systems, or recently graduated with relevant experiences such as internships, research projects, or volunteer work, and a strong understanding of agroforestry principles, practices, and techniques, particularly in the Indonesian context.
• Able to develop written plans and reports for project activities.
• University degree or diploma in agroforestry, agriculture, or related field.
• Willingness to travel daily to meet farmers and discuss the implementation of CSA on their farms.
• Experience working with farmers and other agricultural-related stakeholders in Bangka Belitung province.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.

Desired skills and experience:

• Fluency in Bahasa Indonesia and English, with the ability to communicate effectively in both languages.
• Experience in community mobilization and working with farmer groups is highly desirable
• Experience working with smallholder farmers.
• Familiar with conducting regular monitoring and using M&E tools such as Kobo or Akvo Flow.
