Job Description of a Veterinarian A veterinarian is a medical professional who specializes in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases and injuries in animals. They provide medical care for animals, including diagnosis, treatment, and preventive care. They also advise owners on proper nutrition, exercise, and other aspects of animal care. Job Skills Required
• Knowledge of animal anatomy and physiology

• Ability to handle animals safely and humanely

• Ability to stay current on advances in veterinary medicine
Job Qualifications
• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from an accredited college or university
• State license to practice veterinary medicine
• Certification in specialty areas such as surgery, internal medicine, or emergency care
• Experience working with animals in a clinical setting
Job Knowledge
• Knowledge of animal anatomy and physiology
• Knowledge of animal diseases and treatments
• Knowledge of animal nutrition and exercise
• Knowledge of animal behavior
• Knowledge of veterinary medical equipment and instruments
• Knowledge of veterinary medical terminology
Job Experience
• Experience working with animals in a clinical setting
• Experience performing medical procedures such as vaccinations, spaying/neutering, and surgery
• Experience providing preventive care and treatments for animals
• Experience diagnosing and treating animal illnesses
• Experience providing client education and counseling
Job Responsibilities
• Diagnose and treat illnesses and injuries in animals
