They help students understand and master course material, develop study skills, and prepare for tests and exams. Academic Tutors may work with students of all ages, from elementary school to college. Detailed Job Description An Academic Tutor is responsible for providing individualized instruction to students in a variety of academic subjects. They must be knowledgeable in the subject matter they are teaching and be able to explain concepts in a way that is easily understood by the student. Academic Tutors must be patient and understanding, as well as be able to motivate and encourage students. They must be able to assess the student’s current level of knowledge and develop a plan to help the student reach their academic goals.
