Job Description
A job description for An Overseas Buyer typically includes the following responsibilities:
1. Research and sourcing: Conduct market research to identify potential suppliers or manufacturers overseas. Evaluate suppliers based on their reliability, quality of products, pricing, and ethical practices.
2. Negotiation and sourcing strategy: Develop and implement sourcing strategies to secure the best prices and terms with suppliers. Negotiate contracts, terms, and conditions with suppliers to ensure favorable agreements.
3. Supplier management: Establish and maintain relationships with suppliers, including regular communication to ensure timely delivery of goods. Work closely with suppliers to resolve any issues or challenges that may arise in the procurement process.
4. Quality control: Perform quality inspections to ensure that suppliers meet the required standards and specifications. Implement and monitor quality control processes to ensure product consistency and compliance with regulations.
5. Logistics and shipping coordination: Collaborate with shipping and logistics companies to coordinate the transportation of goods from overseas suppliers to the desired destination. Ensure that all necessary import and export documentation is properly completed to avoid any delays or customs issues.
6. Cost management: Monitor and analyze the costs of procurement, including product pricing, shipping, customs duties, and taxes. Look for opportunities to optimize costs and improve efficiency in the purchasing process.
7. Risk assessment and management: Identify and assess potential risks associated with working with overseas suppliers, such as political instability, currency fluctuations, or supply chain disruptions. Develop strategies to mitigate these risks and ensure business continuity.
8. Compliance and regulations: Stay updated on international trade regulations, customs requirements, and any applicable laws and regulations related to the procurement and import/export of goods. Ensure compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements.
9. Market trends and supplier evaluation: Keep abreast of market trends, new product developments, and changes in the industry. Continuously evaluate suppliers to identify new opportunities for cost savings, improved product quality, and innovation.
10. Reporting and analysis: Prepare regular reports on procurement activities, including supplier performance, cost savings, and inventory levels. Analyze data to identify areas for improvement and recommend strategic actions to senior management.
