Job Description

This is a dynamic role responsible for implementing the company's sustainability strategy across APRIL’s manufacturing operations with a focus on fulfilling the sustainability policies and achieving the 2030 commitments, particularly on sustainable growth climate positive, responsible production and circularity.

The Sustainability Manager for Manufacturing will be part of the Sustainability Operations team which covers forestry and manufacturing operations and leverage an internal network to oversee operational execution, support stakeholder relations and communication.

The role will be responsible for overall coordination and support on Manufacturing across APRIL Group’s integrated operations that include the production of power, pulp, paper, viscose, board and other downstream products. The person will report directly to the Head of Sustainability Operations under the APRIL Director of Sustainability.


Key Responsibilities

  1. Collect, process, analyze data and report performance progress on sustainability performance indicators related to APRIL’s sustainability policy and commitments, including the 2030 agenda for both APRIL and integrated sister company, Asia Pacific Rayon (APR).
  2. Analyze sustainability topics and industry material issues and decide on the introduction of new concepts, guidelines, processes and tools and are responsible for their design and implementation. Prepare briefing papers to support Management decision making
  3. Lead ESG reporting for manufacturing operations including inputs into the Sustainability Report and submissions to relevant disclosure platforms such a the Carbon Disclosure Project, Ecovadis and more.
  4. Accountable for facility performance and proactively customize pre-audit capability building efforts and post-audit remediation to enable sustained improvements
  5. Assist with third party audit program including scheduling, audit quality assurance, tracking performance and cost management.
  6. Advance sustainability-purposed certification efforts, ensuring the company is performing as well is its peers on key certification, industry benchmarks and customers’ requirements.
  7. Serve as the liaison, across all sustainability areas, including collaborating with cross-functional internal teams and departments as well as with RGE Group member Companies on all manufacturing related issues and reports
  8. Work closely with management, customers and stakeholders to develop and implement sustainability strategies. Significantly advance awareness of sustainability progress among key industry stakeholders, including NGOs, industry partners and customers, as a means to increase positive recognition and engagement.
  9. Support where required public affairs and business development teams on initiatives that support the group and industry goals on sustainable growth, climate positive, clean manufacturing, circularity, social partnerships
  10. Engage with international industry stakeholders that includes Textile Exchange, ZDHC, Sustainable Apparel Coalition and all other relevant platforms and agencies


Key Experiences

  1. Degree in science, engineering and related fields.
  2. Minimum 7 years of work experience in manufacturing environment as well as corporate sustainability.
  3. Strong technical and analytical capabilities
  4. Must be dynamic and highly adaptable with ability to achieve results in a fast-paced, multi-cultural environment.
  5. Ability to develop concepts and work plans, through to implementation and delivery.
  6. Strong written and oral communications skills in English
  7. Team player while also able to work independently
  8. Strong problem solving and organizational skills with the ability to network and connect people from different work functions
  9. Experience in navigating and synthesizing various viewpoints
  10. Ability to provide counsel to business and senior leadership on issues, sustainability trends, bringing context and understanding of relevant risks and opportunities
