Position Overview: We are seeking a highly organized and capable individual to join our team as a Vertical Farm Manager. The successful candidate will oversee the day-to-day operations of our vertical farms and manage a team of dedicated staff. While experience in vertical farming is not required, excellent management skills and a passion for sustainable agriculture are essential.

Responsibilities:

Operations Management:

• Identify and resolve any operational issues or bottlenecks promptly.
• Manage inventory levels and track farm productivity to meet production targets.
• Monitor optimal growing conditions, including temperature, humidity, lighting, and nutrient levels.
• Coordinate with the procurement team to ensure an adequate supply of seeds, fertilizers, and other necessary resources.
• Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) for all farm activities, including planting, harvesting, irrigation, pest control, and maintenance.
• Oversee the overall operations of the vertical farm, ensuring smooth functioning and adherence to quality standards.

Staff Management:

• Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and promote a culture of safety awareness.
• Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback to support staff development.
• Delegate tasks and assign responsibilities to staff members, providing clear instructions and guidelines.
• Recruit, train, and supervise a team of farm technicians, ensuring they have the necessary knowledge and skills to perform their duties effectively.
• Foster a positive work environment, promoting teamwork, communication, and employee engagement.

Quality Control and Productivity:

• Collaborate with the R&D team to explore and implement new farming techniques and technologies to enhance productivity and sustainability.
• Implement quality control measures to maintain high standards for produce, including visual inspections, taste tests, and monitoring for pest or disease outbreaks.
• Monitor crop growth and productivity, adjusting cultivation techniques as needed to optimize yields.
• Implement data-driven approaches to assess and improve farm efficiency, including tracking key performance indicators (KPIs) and analyzing production data.

Farm Maintenance and Sustainability:

• Stay updated with the latest advancements in vertical farming and share knowledge with the team.
• Coordinate with maintenance staff to ensure proper upkeep and maintenance of farm infrastructure, including vertical growing systems, irrigation systems, lighting, and climate control systems.
• Implement and promote sustainable farming practices, including water conservation, waste management, and energy efficiency.

Qualifications:

• Familiarity with sustainable farming methods and a passion for environmentally-friendly practices.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to collaborate effectively with team members, suppliers, and customers.
• Proven experience in a managerial role, preferably in agriculture, horticulture, or a related field.
• Excellent problem-solving abilities and the capacity to make quick decisions in a fast-paced environment.
• High attention to detail and commitment to maintaining quality standards.
• Solid understanding of agricultural principles and practices, although experience in vertical farming is not required.
• Strong organizational and leadership skills, with the ability to effectively manage and motivate a diverse team.
• Good knowledge of technology and willingness to learn and adapt to new farm management systems and software.
• Ability to work flexible hours and adapt to changing farm requirements.
