Job Description

A PostgreSQL/EDB DBA, or database administrator, is responsible for managing and maintaining PostgreSQL/EDB databases for an organization. They ensure that the databases are running efficiently, securely, and are available for use by the organization’s users.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor database performance and proactively address performance issues.
  • Develop and implement database maintenance procedures to optimize database performance.
  • Troubleshoot database issues and resolve them in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate with other IT teams to ensure the smooth operation of the organization’s IT infrastructure.
  • Maintain database availability
  • Maintain database security and access controls to ensure the protection of sensitive data.
  • Work with application teams to design and implement database structures that meet their needs.
  • Install, configure, and maintain PostgreSQL/EDB database management systems.
  • Ensure data integrity by monitoring and analysing database activity.
  • Design and implement backup and recovery procedures to ensure the availability of data in the event of a disaster or system failure.


Qualifications

  • Checking errors in the service and notification logs and taking necessary actions.
  • Installing, configuring and monitoring of PostgreSQL/EDB servers.
  • Managing and troubleshooting PostgreSQL/EDB server security and user access. Granting/revoking various authorizations to different users/groups.
  • Creation of database objects tables, table space, table partition, indexes, and storage group etc.
  • Good exposure to DBA maintenance activities like reorgs run stats back up restore expanding and reducing the table spaces.
  • Hands on knowledge of export, import, load and PostgreSQL/EDB move utilities for moving data between tables/databases.
  • Database monitoring using native and/or third party tools.
  • Space estimation & capacity planning for PostgreSQL/EDB servers.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in database installation, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting
  • Managing high availability features – log shipping, replication, disaster recovery
  • Taking backup and restoring databases as needed.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
