Job Description
The purpose of this position is:


  • Act as liaison between PTFI and local and regional government security forces, coordinating joint GOI/PTFI security operations to mitigate or minimize risk of injury of PTFI employees and theft or damage to property and equipment under conditions of civil disturbance, terrorist threat or natural disaster.
  • Protect the lives and safety of the employees and their families, company assets in order to achieve smooth operations, and to promote security awareness while advancing the concept of accountability for violations.


The key duties and responsibilities of this position are:


  • As member of the jobsite security management group, supervise the implementation of the security strategic plan within the guidelines provided by PTFI senior management, in compliance with all Indonesian government rules, regulations and contracts as well as relevant US laws.
  • Oversee the operations of the assigned security control center.
  • Liaise with the manager support to provide administrative and logistics requirements for the support of over 700 internal security personnel and approximately 1500 indirect security force personnel.
  • Meet on a regular basis with Senior Management on security related matters to advise them in formulation of company policy regarding support of and coordination with GOI security forces in relation to their role in protecting company people and facilities.
  • Oversee a joint information collection and analysis effort, to provide timely and accurate assessments and warning of developing security threats to employees and company operations.
  • Conduct effective liaison and coordination with all persons having an impact upon Security Department, which includes, but is not limited to Freeport executives, local and National Indonesian Government leaders, along with Police and Military figures at all levels and at certain situation act as ambassador for the company in order to ensure good relations and coordination with the above parties.
  • Provide leadership and direction for security personnel, system, and programs in the assigned operating area and other functional areas as assigned. As part of this, mentor and motivate subordinates to enhance their job performance and leadership capabilities.
  • Communicate and work proactively with other divisions and departments to maintain smoothness in company's operations such as in the logistics and manpower transportation from high land to low land, vice versa.
  • Under the direction of the Senior Security Manager, take the lead in developing, planning and conducting a security training program for the 700 plus members of the department to ensure the personnel skills, performance, image, and attitude are continuously improved and reflect the values and culture of the company.
  • Assist the Sr. Manager in initiating, planning and implementing situation-building programs relative to good governance support initiative.
  • Manage and control all procedures (e. g. security patrols in all areas including roads connecting HL to LL, attendance security post, etc.) to ensure all have been strictly adhered to by the SRM team and security apparatus.
  • Assist in planning for emergency preparedness contingencies; organize emergency operation's center, and function as a crisis management team member to minimize risk of injury to personnel or loss of assets during a crisis situation. Develop and maintain a civil disturbance contingency and site evacuation plan in support of PTFI's crisis management plan.
  • Promote security awareness within the company workforce at Jobsite.
  • As part of the security management group, maintain liaison with commander Satgaspam and other relevant security and police force leaders to coordinate the joint security effort in the project area.
  • Ensure personal and property security for personnel and families within our geographic area of responsibility, to ensure that the employees and families find secure and safe working and living conditions at Jobsite.
  • Function as integral member of the jobsite security management group consisting of the Senior Security Manager, assigned area (HL or LL) Security Operations Manager, and Security Support Operations Manager. As a member of this group, establish the company security strategic plan, and supporting plans to include PTFI's antiterrorist program.


The key challenges in this position include:


  • Ability to respond to strikes and civil disturbances.
  • Ability to solve complicated, multi-faceted problems with ethnic and cultural undercurrents having with enormous and lasting repercussions.
  • Ability to perform quick response to complaints and reports related to security matters from PTFI communities, prompt to provide responses with visible results, and quick to provide update report to supervisor.
  • Ability to train, motivate and establish various accountability programs for a large security force, operating in a decentralized fashion, spread over a large area, while performing a sensitive and varied mission.
  • Ability to cultivate meaningful intelligence regarding strikes, terrorist actions, and other activities that impact upon company operations and then, to formulate operations plans and implement them safely and effectively.
  • Ability to analyze and understand the highly complex social and cultural dynamics both within the company employee ranks and the surrounding community to anticipate security risks and develop comprehensive plans, techniques and procedures to successfully address these risks.
  • Ability to balance Freeport Security interests with Contract of Work regulations (COW), Collective Labor Agreement. The key challenges in this position include: (CLA), relevant US laws (particularly the FCPA law) as well as relevant Indonesian laws.


The background, education, and work experience needed to succeed in this job are:


Minimum Education And Experience


  • Minimum of College/bachelor's degree - any discipline or equivalent experience, preferably a bachelor's degree (BA) in Criminal Justice with 3 years working experience as corporate security manager or equivalent. Police or equivalent government security management experience is desired.
  • Retired military officer/NCO with 20 years of working experience in security risk management and training management and training management skills.
